I don't think anyone has been saying they're bad, it's just a matter of personal preferance.
I don't really like tattoos, but I'm not going to condemn anyone for getting one!!
Just wondering-- why do they mean alot to you?

I don't remember anyone saying they are wrong. They were stating their opinions. Like you want us to respect your opinion, they want their perspectives to be respected, also. Even if they disagree, just like you want respect if you disagree.

I don't like doing things to myself that are permanent! I love change and style and if I ever got a tattoo..then it would always be there! I even hate getting my hair cut cuz I'm afraid I'll want it back the other way!ol I have my ears pierced and my body doens't do too well with piercings so I gave up the nose stud idea.

back on subject....if I ever got a tattoo I'd get one on my lower back. I think those ones are cool! (My bad streak there) and if I didn't want anyone to see it hen I could hide it.haha

there isn't anything really wrong with them. unless it's something really bad. My freind's dad was wild as a teen and got some pretty graphic tattoos, now he's got all these kids and he can't hide them and he can't get them removed. I would hate to ever have that happen!

my sister's boyfriend has a huge celtic cross on his arm and I know for him, it means a ton. He got it when he turned his life around. So each to his own I guess!

As one of my sister's teachers once put it, it's not the fact that you have a tattoo, it's why you have it. For instance, if you had a cross where it could be seen, e.g. on your arm, people could ask and you could use it to witness to people. If you get a nice tattoo and have a good reason (Being cool probably doesn't count) then I think they're fine. I, personally wouldn't get one though!!!

I think the bible says in lev. 21:19, that you are not supposed to tattoo/make any mark on your body
but different translations say different things.

It also says in the New Testament that everything that was made unclean is no longer that way. I can't remember what book, and I dont have my Bible with me to look it up... But I feel like it is a bit hypocritical for us to claim that we have to follow some rules in Leviticus and not others... because it also says in Leviticus that we are not suppose to eat Pig or anything out of the ocean that isn't fish. And it also say that while women are menstrating they are considered unclean and have to live outside of the city in a specified tent during it... Soo. yeah. :P

No it does not say everything that was unclean it says in acts 10:10-16 Then he became very hungry and wanted to eat; but while they made ready, he fell into a trance and saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth. In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air. And a voice came to him, “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.” But Peter said, “Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.” And a voice spoke to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed you must not call common.” This was done three times. And the object was taken up into heaven again. It says ""what god has cleansed you must not call common(unclean)"" not "everything that was made unclean is no longer that way." (yes I know you were paraphrasing) I think that makes sense. Tell me if you don't get it. But more importantly is the fact that God lives in you and that you are HIS temple and tattooing is like graffiti. I think we all know that graffiti on a temple(church be it as you may) is NOT respectful.

That verse wasn't what I meant. I looked and couldn't find it but I did find...

Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said, "Listen to me, everyone, and understand this. Nothing outside a man can make him 'unclean' by going into him. Rather, it is what comes out of a man that makes him 'unclean.' "After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him about this parable. "Are you so dull?" he asked. "Don't you see that nothing that enters a man from the outside can make him 'unclean'?
Mark 7:14-18

And I do think that yes the New Testament did specifically say that food is no longer unclean... But it also NEVER said that tattoos were wrong... So this is all speculation. Because we don't follow all of the Levticus rules anymore. My point earlier was that it seems hypocritical if we condemn people for not follow one rule but yet we ourselve don't follow another.
And some people take that rule as to not make any permamnent changes, so in there eyes, getting piercing are wrong too.
If we are going to say we need to follow all the rules in Leviticus that was not nullified by Jesus we would be on a never ending process...
It says in Levitus that we have to burn clothes that begin to mildew if it hasn't gone away 7 days later after being examined by a priest; it says a women is unclean when she is on her period, and anything she touches is unclean, and anyone who touches anything she has, especially her bed they are unclean for the rest of the day. It says de not wear clothing made of two different kinds of material, don't mate two different kinds of animals, don't your trim your beard.
My point is that if we are going to say we have to follow all the rules, then we need to follow ALL. Or else it's a hard for people who aren't Christians to understadn. That is why most non-christians are so turned off by christianity.
I have 3 tattoos. My first one was a medical alert tattoo. I am diabetic, and I used to wear the bracelets but they kept falling off, breaking or falling apart. So getting the symbol and the words, type one diabetic on my wrist is a way for me to always have that on me. It is something I am certain if anything were to happen could save my life.

Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will recieve the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

The bad thing about tattoos is that your body is god's temple, (like it says in the bible) and god wants you not to harm it, but to take care of it. Tatoos are permanant and will stay with you forever here on earth, and i bet you won't enjoy at least one tattoo you got later in your life, when you get older, you still might, but there's a good chance you won't. i will never get a tattoo, (mostly cuz the pain and permanence) but if you have a tattoo that people can look at and ask about and you can share christ to them by explaining why you have you tatto, i think that's TOTALLY AWESOME!!! :)

P.S. one of the friends my parents knew from our church had a jesus on the cross tattoo, and he would go downtown and show homeless people it and share christ with them and give them stuff. if you like tattoos so much, you could totally do that and GOD WOULD LOVE IT!!!!!! :)

Be nice, give someone an unexpected compliment right now! :)

I made sure when I got my tattoos that it was something I truly wanted... I waited months before getting one after i decided I wanted one... TO make sure I didnt change my mind. Besides the medical alert tattoo, I have one on my foot that says Savior, Father, Healer; which is some of the most important things he has been to me recently in my life... I also have a small star on myright forearm... And my sister has a matching one... I am in college she is still in HS we got it to show that no matter how far apart we get we are still connected... And I plan on getting more... I am getting a small tiara on my ankle this summer, my sister gettin a teddy bear on her ankle. and my Dad is getting both on his upper arm, because those are his nicknames for us... And always have been.
I also plan on getting either YHWH in hebrew along with the words Savior father healer in hebrew too... Or in Greek minus the YHWH... I havent decided... Which means It wont be gotten until about September If i make up mind mind this month...
I always make sure that I just dont get my tattoos just on a passing fancy. That I really want them and that the mean something to me. And again tattoos aren't adressed in the New Testament so no one can say one way or another whether it is right or not..

To clear up what I posted earlier... I am getting a small tiara because my dad always called me pirncess, and my sister is getting a bear because my dad always called her bear...
