I've deleted the "God" topic where everyone is debating His existence. Interesting discussion, lots of good points on both sides, but this is a place to strengthen your faith, not find reason to doubt. Ya'll will have to find another place to have this conversation.
Sorry!

With all due respect (and seriously, I mean absolutely no disrespect)... But, if I recall correctly, there was no one on the "God doesn't exist" side. Everyone was a believer, and we were just listing our reasons as to why... I guess I'm a little confused as to where the challenge to people's faith was, or how exactly people would have begun to doubt the existence of God from that conversation (which, from my perspective at least, would have only led to a faith being strengthened)... If anyone is interested, the reason I started that topic was to create a place where people could strengthen their intellectual belief. Truth be told, the lack of the intellectual (perhaps even anti-intellectualism) in the Church today is one of the greatest challenges to modern Christianity. Paul commands us to give reason for our hope. My only intention was to create a place to nurture the strengthening of faith. However, it's totally your call, and I'm really not at all trying to question that. I very well may have completely misinterpreted what was going on in the topic. I'm just curious, I guess . |

Tell you what, I'll consult the others (we're like an alien life force) and if they think I was too hard on the topic, I'll let you start it up again. -Julie |

I'm bringing the Free Will/God's Will thing here, where it belongs =] Ephesians 1.5, 9-11: God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure... God has now revealed to us his mysterious plan regarding Christ, a plan to fulfill his own good pleasure. And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ- everything in heaven and on earth. Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan. Think of Paul's conversion in Acts 9. Um, he was thrown to the ground with a brilliant light shining in his eyes. What would you say to a Voice saying, "I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting! Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do." "Eh, no, I don't think I want to..." doesn't really seem like a good idea, yet it would be the only way for Saul to keep his own Free Will. And Jesus himself said, ... those the Father has given me will come to me, and I will never reject them. For I have come down from heaven to do the will of God who sent me, not to do my own will. About David's comment about God interfering in people's lives to bring them to each other... um, isn't that the point??? Duhh He interferes in our lives!!!! I don't believe that anything is coincidence. Not that I happen to be friends with someone who has changed my life, or that I happened to be offered a job when I wasn't asking for one, or that we've always managed to somehow find enough money every month to cover everything, even on one income. |

| God will nudge, poke and guide, but He will not ever control. It is only through controlling someone that you can be guaranteed He will bring you someone. Because we have free will, this potential person could always disobey God's guidance. As such, no guarantee can be made. |
