Okay I was wondering what everyone thought about these verses, because my family and I feel that it means that women should cover their heads when they pray (which we do), to theirselves or out loud (or prophesy but we haven't done that so that hasn't been an issue). But not many people seem to feel the same way and I was wondering what other people think that it means:

But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head. But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven. For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered. For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man. For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels. Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord. For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God. Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered? Doth not nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering. But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.
                                                                  1 Corinthians 11: 3-16

I look forward to hearing everyones opinions .

contentious - quarrelsome, argumentative, testy.

and it says, if any man is "testy" about this, we have no such custom.

just my thoughts. :]

You may as well come quiet.

Its a hard topic, I think the Jewish people do this stuff alot, but I had acutally never heard of it before you brought it up...

Turn up the music
Turn it up loud
Take a few chances
Let it all out
'Cause you won't regret it
Lookin' back from where you have been
'Cause it's not who you knew
And it's not what you did
It's how you live

I appreciate your comments, I was really curious what people what think. I feel that it means for you to cover your head with something other than your hair because it says for the woman to be shorn or shaven if she doesnt cover her head, and I don't see why it would say that if her covering was her long hair. But thats just my opinion. I don't mind if we don't feel the same, it's a heart issue after all.

God bless,

LOL
yeah dont worry if others dont agree. If you feel like it's what God wants you to do, go for it, cuz it only matters what God thinks in the end.

Yeah, it's a personal thing - between you and God. If your family is convicted of it, then by all means, go for it! :)

Wow, this is fascinating, since I work with so many Mennonites at one of my part-time jobs.

I had a friend who wore a full covering and she said it was because her denomination believed that a woman's long hair was her husband's "glory" and that only he should see it.

Keep talking, I'm learning.

Ya'll are too sweet :). Just so you know Julie I don't feel like I should cover my head all the time (just when I pray or if I prophesied -which I don't- since those things were the only things directly mentioned), or even all the way. To me a hand on my head is just as honoring to God as a big cloth head covering is. In fact I do this alot since I don't often have something else with me, lol. I started out with a big headcovering but I really hated standing out so obviously if something less conspicuous would please God just as well (and so I started using things like hankerchiefs and like I've already said my hand, lol). Basically I feel that if you are using your hand as a head covering then in God's eyes it IS a head covering, or atleast while you're using it as such, lol. Well anyway I'd love to hear more from ya'll.

Lots of love guys :),

i think wearing a head covering is something that is required. cuz it says a man should not have his head covered when he is praying but it says a women shall have her head covered when she prays. so if you just accept the fact that a women's hair is her covering then what about the men's hair? it says they shall not have a covering.  i no there is alot of opinions on this but this is my opinion

lol I was just reading this on sunday on the way to church and my dad pointed something out to me that was very interesting. 1 Corinthians 10:23; All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. (KJV) the "me" referring to Christians.

I agree that this is a personal thing- I just feel this in my heart that we all need to make sure that we don't let anything get between us and God. As in, we can't let a headcovering or anything else make or break whether we come completely into God's love and grace. Jesus tore the curtain that day on the cross so that everyone can come into his presence completely, and never stand outside the door to the temple ever again, waiting for anyone other than Jesus to intercede for us. On the other hand, how ever we come to Jesus is between Him and Us!! Just my .02
