Hey Q you're talking to someone with experience here!!! I used to belong to a church that took all that literally. We wore ankle length dresses, veils over our hair, no jewelry whatsoever (watches, but not gold). We couldn't cut out hair, and we couldn't be seen with it uncovered. Men could wear hats but it was not encouraged, and very few did. As far as swimming, we had to wear our dresses swimming (talk about drowning) and NEVER swim with guys :)

Of course that was a few years ago, I wear jeans, usually work ones, and not tight. One thing I don't budge on is low tops. I will not go around letting every guy look at my chest!! My best friend grew up the same way I did..but went off the far end wearing low rise, low cut, tiny mini skirts and shorts...I was telling her about my wedding dress and it's really low cut and i want to get that changed and she was like "oh Jeesh Clare come on it's your special day you don't have to change it" I was like "hu??? I'm not going to go around letting everyone see my chest, and I don't think Grant is going to want everyone looking at it either" her response was something like...your mom and Grant are dumb, forcing you to dress like that. That was hard to take :(

that was my rant :P

I wear a tankini when I swim, but when there are a lot of guys around I'll put on board shorts or a different top. I'm not comfortable showing much skin!!

sorry for me not having much time to read all the posts, but as i posted on the last one, and as did alot of the guys like Will, Locke, David... whatever you wear... a guy is gonna be able to tell you're a girl and be attracted to you in some way no matter what... david said, the best way to not be appealing or show to much is to wear a box... it gives you no shape...

I personally find one pieces immodest... you can still tell your shape, and they often dont have enough padding... i wear a bikini, but it's a modest one, IE not skimpy, and boardies that are shortshorts and a rash shirt when i need to...

i find no difference between a bikini and a one piece modesty wise, and anything wet is gonna cling to your body anyways, so nothing's really modest...

I think it's also about how you act in what you wear that makes you immodest or too revealing...

as to what everyone else is wearing...

I think that everyone should wear what they're comfortable wearing...
I dont feel too bad about short shorts at the beach, cuz it's the beach, and i dont wear them anywhere else, and there is so much leg showing at the beach, that no one notices anything...

but... like Clare said... I dont wear low cut tops... or micro shortshorts or miniskirts for that matter... or crop tops around people... unless i'm exercising at a gym or something where it's normal to wear a crop top...

but yeah, id have had your reaction to what your friend said as well Clare! I mean, I bought my 21st dress, and when i got it, the chest part was WAY TOO REVEALING! so I got ribbon and sequins and fixed it up (looked way better than the original dress) and my aunty was like "you didn't need to fix it" and I was like "Dude... you could see my bra... thats SO not cool!!!"

anyways, not that you needed to know that haha, AHEM!!

it sorta depends on circumstances, but it must be what you're comfortable wearing... and FYI, I never wear a dress without shorts underneath... i just feel uncomfortable...

Jo you've done it AGAIN ^_^ I agree- though no surprise there :P
I have to say that as far as modesty goes with bathing suits, I have to agree that one pieces are still going to cling to your body, and therefore hide none of a lady's curves. :P However it does cover up the midriff, though wearing something over a two piece definitely does that too. If we really wanted to hide curves.... a box is probably the answer :P Haha. Actually, going back to one pieces: there are some one pieces out there that may as well be two pieces. The ones that have holes (tailor made) just about everywhere, or that don't really cover as much in the front. Yeah, then you may as well go for the two piece- there's kinda no difference.
But hey, when you wear a bathing suit, whether two piece, one piece, cover or no cover, you're going to be at the beach or swimming in it, and just go with your standards for modesty.

I agree about some of those one pieces... like the ones that are practically bikini's but have a tiny bit that covers your belly button... I'm like "What's the point??" haha

It's not cool... in my oppinion...

haha I know! They look like they've been shot by a canon! I could never wear a bikini around my brothers or guy friends, I feel like I'm in my bra and underwear! If it's just my sisters or other girls I don't care. I guess it's because i grew up so conservative. What bothers me, is when girls are walking around town in their bikini's with maybe a tiny pair of shorty shorts, but nothing on top! I mean wear it at the pool but not in the grocery store!

Girls, do you think it's any better to wear a bikini at an all girls' event than it is to wear one at a gathering where both guys and girls are present? From what Nicole said in one of the other topics, it sounds like with so much skin showing, it would be easy for a girl to compare herself to other girls and become discontent. Please, DON'T wear bikinis at all! :(

some girls compare..I mean shouldn't guys not go shirtless because we all know guys compare themselves!!! I might notice oh she is smaller or bigger..but that is as far as it goes. We don't check each other out!

yeah thats a good point Clare... and I think in the original topic David had brought it up about guys going topless... and if you're ripped as... It can be a stumbling block for a girl...

ok so at the hot pools last week, this really big girl was wearing a bikini and it obviously was too small... and that was SO NOT COOL! if you dont suit or fit a bikini, dont wear one... not to be mean, but it makes you less attractive rather than more...

Haha thank you Clare! No, we don't check each other out; if yes, I'd be worried...
The most I'll think is, "man she's TINY", or I'll notice she's slightly bigger, but that's about it. Okay now guys, on the other hand, there are some things I might notice, but I am not going to linger on it. That would be a No.
As far as what Clare mentioned about her wedding dress.... I'd go for the moderation. :) For one thing, if Grant can see that much of your chest, it doesn't mean all the other guys in attendance are suddenly blind- they can see it too. I'm sure the groom would not appreciate every guy in the room suddenly having thoughts about his bride to be. :P Okay, sorry, that's my 2 cents. :P
As far as comparisons, we can do that easily even if she's wearing a T-shirt and jeans. Of course, comparisons are usually subconscious- at least for me. I usually catch myself comparing, and chastise myself because I imagine God with me, and He's not exactly encouraging my comparisons. :P Okay He's not. For me at least, it's a process to go through, and it's going to take some more time for me to really see myself the way God sees me.

modest bikini?? to me that sounded like a oxy-moron. or whatever those things are. ie. jumbo shrimp, icy hot.. ect.. lol :)

now i dont have anything against bikinis, i really want to wear one but my parents said no. i just thought that little phrase sounded funny.

but what would a modest bikini be? a not so stringy one? just wondering.....

like a modest bikini (bear in mind, they always show your stomach, but even tankinis do a little...)
is one that covers more than your average bikini... yeah like ones that aren't stringy, ones that aren't ruffled (I wont go into the reasons form this...) and sometimes even the tube ones are better than the v neck ones... (though they look ugly on myself...)

they are half of a one piece. its like a mix between a bikini and a one piece.. there is pretty much no point to them.. if you go to target.com look at the swimsuits, they have them..
