Cool! I get to be the first reply..... I even beat Jojo and wjr1991! (BTW, you guys rock and are so wise!!!) Yes, it is easy to get caught up in presents and Santa around Christmas. It's become a very 'me' orientated occasion. 'What am I going to get?' Not 'What can I give?' I really love giving my gifts and seeing the receiver's faces when they open them. And also to remember the greatest gift God ever gave us: His one and only Son. No gift in the whole entire world can even come marginally close to that. Alright, now the rest of you can attack the subject! |

LOL, I didnt get here first because I live in New Zealand and there's a time difference lol but yeah, I agree. I luv christmas cuz I get to show all my friends and family how much I love them. but it sucks this year because of the recession all over the world... I have like no money, so I gotta make stuff by hand... but I luv going to the midnight service at church and getting to be awake for the exact first second of Christmas day and be glorifying God. Its awesome! (and more often than not, Im asked to do a dance for the christmas service, but I think this year I'll rather sing...) Jesus IS the reason for the season! Amen to that |

haha... thanks, artyprincess... I try at both, so it's nice to know somebody thinks I'm succeeding! It is true that it's easy to get selfish- or forget the reason for the holiday... just an interesting note, but it doesn't have to just be about what you get to make it a "me" holiday- it can be all about you if it's all about what you get, or all about what you give. I happen to think forgetting the ]reason is more important- if you remember why the holiday exists, you won't make it all about you. (BTW, I'm not being "politically correct" by referring to "holidays"- I'm saying it's not just a problem with Christmas.) In America, at least, it seems we have a party mindset, where we have a party (or feast, or celebration) just for the sake of celebrating... with no attention paid to what we should be celebrating (or whom). Even "patriotic" holidays are just occasions to have people over for a cookout, and maybe watch fireworks... it's really shallow. (The exception- birthdays... and that's because the person we're supposed to be celebrating is present, and we know they would be disappointed with us if we just showed up at their party only to have fun.) That's my personal opinion... Jojo- I think that's awesome... maybe it's just where I live, but I think churches really need to do more of that sort of thing... I mean, a bunch of churches got together up here for a Thanksgiving meal and prayer... but even that seemed like it needed more- a reminder of what we are thankful for. (Maybe the most simple thing to do would be to read the year's Thanksgiving declaration- for the non-Americans to know, Thanksgiving here is actually declared every year... for example, this years proclamation: http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2008/11/20081121-8.html ) I dunno- it just seems to me that even when we "remember the reason for the season" (or holiday) we make a big mistake in taking a moment to reflect on it- when in reality it's a "holy-day" (a day set apart)- it's not the focus of a moment, or even an hour (for dinner)... it's a day set aside for a purpose. We just have so short an attention span... So yeah- let others celebrate their own generosity... let us Christians give because we're following the example of Christ, and to be like Him is our chief desire! If we say it is really about Him, let's start acting like it! (I know, not all of life is obviously a choice for or against Jesus... but in everything we do, we show whether or not we really love Him... especially how we act on a day set aside to His remembrance.) So yes, Merry Christmas- for Christ was born, was crucified, is risen, and through Him our salvation has come! P.S. I didn't get to it because we had a play premiere to attend... well... I was learning the light changes because I missed the dress rehearsal, and taking pictures... so... yeah. It went well. |

Most of the nearly two billion children in the developing world have inadequate access to dinosaurs. Some receive no paleontology training at all. One in three has never even seen a dinosaur in person.
OVPC is an organization providing a means to an end - an end that sees children in even the most remote regions of the globe being given the motivation and adrenaline to tap into their own potential, identify with the survival needs of a global dinosaur-driven culture, and to contribute to a paleontological world community.
