I've been a Facebook user since my 13th Birthday. When I got the hang of it, I was like, "Wow! This is so fun! I can see all my friends' pictures, get their updates, keep in touch, comment on stuff... I'll never be bored again!"
So I did just that. Whenever I became bored I'd hop on FB to pass the time. Not until this summer did God convict me of my FB usage.
He began to show me how self-centered and shallow Facebook really is:
---You post a cute picture of yourself and hope that someone will comment on it and say you look pretty. ---You write where you're going and who you're hanging out with so that it seems like you're a busy girl/guy with lots of friends. ---You look at the profiles of people that you hardly know, and if you're like I was, compare your picture with their picture. ---You get a little depressed when one of your friends is suddenly "in a relationship" and wonder if there's something wrong with you because you're not.
God asked me, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR HIGH SCHOOL YEARS?!"
He challenged me to go a week without getting on Facebook. I thought, "Oh sure, this will be easy." To my surprise, I found myself thinking about it many times a day and wishing I could get on. When I went to a fun youth group event where people were taking pictures, I wanted so badly to get on when I got home to see if anybody had tagged me. "Oh, God!" I cried one evening. "Forgive me! I have wasted so much of my life focused on myself when I could be spending it in prayer, doing devotions, or helping my mom out with my siblings." I felt strongly convicted to delete my Facebook after that night. And my life is so much more enjoyable now! ----I encourage you to consider and pray about deleting or taking a break from your Facebook. Remember that ANY time on FB is wasted time, and whether you admit it or not, it is separating you from God and the work he wants to do in your life. If you want to stay in touch with old friends, letter writing or e-mail is SO much more sincere than taking two seconds to write on their wall or "like" their photo. God will bless you for it! (:

thats pretty cool. haha, my job on facebook (Will be...) doing stuff on the forum's page once it's up and I also manage our youth group's page, and cuz my friends live ALL OVER the world, and its so hard to actually get everyones emails, facebook is so much easier. but yeah, i do see what you're saying. i sometimes do the 2nd one you mentioned haha. but yeah, i've limited my time on fb and the tv lately (Cuz at the start of last year, it was all i did everyday... except when I was taking youth group etc etc) oh yeah, a good way to keep in touch with my uni and any upcoming events etc that i normally wouldn't hear about and these days, no one sends out invites anymore, they fb invite you... but I am totally glad that you were able to hear God's opinion on it for yourself that is awesome, and that you actually did something about it. I mean, i think i play videogames too much, and idk, it's taking me a while to ween myself off them |

Wow that's awesome Rose! I usually get on FB once a day- to be honest. I should actually limit how many times a day I get on FB. I used to watch a whole bunch of television in elementary, jr high and some high school, but I kinda stopped one day in maybe my jr year of high school, and really, I can totally live without the tv. I usually just watch a movie, but during the weekdays I really don't watch TV. I guess I just got super busy with lots of things that come with getting older. FB- I will definitely try and limit. |

I know what you mean! Facebook can be very addicting!!! personally, I find facebook often boring (except my sister's weekly humorous view on the week ) I don't have access to a computer during the week but on weekends I'm on it all too often. My challenge though, is texting.....I feel like I have to be talking to someone at all times, or several someones! I went without it for a month (not by choice) and found it very relaxing! It's hard to concentrate on reading my Bible and praying when I keep getting texts, or am wondering what I should say to whom. I think I've done a lot better, I still text a lot, but it's the other person who texts all the time not me. (it's true!! ask Grant!) |

Haha I know what you mean Clare! I actually don't find a need to be texting all the time, but when I'm super bored- oh yeah! Like the other day when I was bored and said 'hi' My sister texts a whole lot- but even she admits that it's rather nice to leave your phone at home sometimes. I like to text, but I usually just keep my phone with me at all times for time reference, or if someone needs to get in touch with me, or vice versa. |

| FB doesn't have to be that way, Rose. It's what you do with it that determines whether or not you should be using it. I actually don't even have a FB but I can understand how it could become addicting. I know I'll have to be careful to limit time on FB if I ever decide to get one. I agree about writing and calling being more personal and meaningful.. It seems like so many of my friends don't have the decency to send invites other than through FB so I get left out of a lot of group things! I've always appreciated my friends who text/call me to make sure I get invited, even if they're not the ones who initiated the event. |

Not saying that you're reasons aren't legit, of course. That was an admirable thing! Clare: I used to struggle with texting too. I used to text quite a few people, then it got down to a select few, but now I barely text at all! It's nice, actually. |

| Beckah, I found it helpful to leave my phone in another room, and during school hours, I turn it off. |

well, she works like everyday. the times very. so she gets during the day and then when she gets home she lets me text.(if my school work is done) lately she has been forgetting to grab her phone when so goes places, because i normally have it, like when we go places together. She is so use to me saying i got the phone or i will grab the phone. LOL! Now i am going to set a rule on it. My parents already have LOTS of rules bout texting. on a side note....are you back from Mississippi? how was your spring break?? you can email me bout it, if ya want... |
